Treatment indications

Cobb ^ > 30º in an immature

• Cobb angle 20º-29º in an immature patient according to the risk of progression (age, Cobb^, Risser, etc)

Some Cheneau brace studies.

Radiologic findings and curve progression 22 years after treatment for AIS:
comparison of brace and surgical treatment with matching control group of straight individuals.

Danielsson AJ, Nachemson AL. Spine 2001; 26(5): 516-25

Health-related quality of life in patients with AIS: |
a matched follow-up at least 20 years after treatment with brace or surgery.
Danielsson AJ, et al Eur Spine J 2001; 10(4): 278-88

Back pain and function 22 years after brace treatment for AIS:
a case-control study-Part I.

Danielsson AJ, Nachemson AL. Spine 2003; 28(18): 2078-85

After more than 20 y since completition of the treatment, most of the curves did not increase. Patients treated for AIS were found to have approximately the same HRQL as the general population. Minimal pain and no dysfunction

Bracing can prevent progression (changing the natural history of AIS), improve cosmesis and reduce the incidence of surgery
